Aasaaska is an Indigenous Black Latina Woman owned, young BIPOC Male led Urban Farming and Beekeeping organization within the city of Hartford. We directly serve our mirrored community Hartford’s population, The bulk of produce we grow caters to this melting pot of individuals that call Hartford their home.
Aasaaska grows food that caters to our large various immigrant community. We specialize in exotic sweet and hot peppers, okras, onions and herbs. We also grow other common vegetables such as cucumbers, greens, tomatoes and root vegetables.
Aasaaska provides for our community by growing fresh local produce, we are investing in in the strength and viability of our community by positioning our youth and future leaders in an early position of responsibility, power and demand. By harnessing the interest and nurturing the curiosity of our cities youth, Aasaaska foresees a major shift in food capacity as is raises awareness while helping solve the community’s issue of food insecurities. Giving our youth the opportunity and abilities to constantly and visually be able to provide healthy locally grown produce in invaluable in itself. It very hard for the youth in the community to find a rewarding careers or jobs within the city and surrounding for so many reasons. We’ve found that rewarding hobbies and projects tend to help fill those voids. These young people bring home food to their families also increasing their self-esteem by constantly adding to their skillsets and knowledge as human beings
